Tony Ferguson had one of the most dominant winning streaks in the history of the lightweight division. Since 2020, his performances declined, and most fans have recommended Ferguson to retire. He is also known for his image outside the octagon and has a unique personality. Conor McGregor and Tony Ferguson always talked trash at each other. Recently, McGregor spoke trash to Ferguson that did not sit well with the “El Cucuy.”
Tony Ferguson went after Conor McGregor for the recent insult. He wrote, “Ahh There’s My Bitch,.. Took A Few To Get Your Attention Ehh??! Remember When You Used To Work For Me & I Fired Your Ass For Not Doing Your Job. When your done signing your legal issues, sign on the dotted line Coward-Champ.” In the past, McGregor’s Management company, Paradigm Sports, represented Ferguson, but he left the agency before the pandemic.
Ferguson has notable wins over fighters like Edson Barboza, Rafael dos Anjos, and Anthony Pettis. His fights have a reputation for being gruesome and a literal bloodbath. Ferguson’s rivalry with Khabib Nurmagomedov became a fight that did not happen. The fight with Nurmagomedov was scheduled multiple times, but it did not materialize. Ferguson defeated Kevin Lee in 2017 and called out McGregor harshly.
Currently, Ferguson is on a six-fight losing streak. The wear and tear on his body from years of combat contributed to the losing streak. On the other hand, McGregor has yet to fight in over two years. Recently, he coached in season 31 of The Ultimate Fighter and has a fight scheduled against Michael Chandler later this year. A fight between McGregor and Ferguson would have been exciting but might never happen.

Time for Tony Ferguson to call it a career
Tony Ferguson had a stellar career until 2020. Fighters feared him due to his cardio and the damage he could put on. In his prime, Ferguson could have been the only fighter to compete against Khabib Nurmagomedov. The two fighters never really got to showcase who was the better one. Khabib retired in 2020, whereas Tony continues to compete and lose.
This decline began right after Ferguson’s bout with Nurmagomedov was canceled for the fifth time. Justin Gaethje came as a replacement and proceeded to batter Ferguson. After the loss, Ferguson also went on to lose the next five fights. Michael Chandler knocked out Ferguson for the first time in his career. Nate Diaz and Bobby Green submitted Ferguson in his recent bouts.
Ferguson is now 39 years old and really far from a dramatic comeback. Though he still insists on performing, he is not getting any better. It may soon be time for El Cucuy to lay down his gloves.
