Tony Ferguson and Charles Oliveira embrace after their fight at UFC 256
The only man Charles Oliveira has not managed to finish in his 11-fight win streak is Tony Ferguson. It’s not that Charles didn’t try, in fact in the closing seconds of round one, Charles secured an armbar on Tony that would have left the toughest humans on the planet quitting while screaming blue murder. However, many have doubts if Tony is even human and Charles Oliveira probably respects him for it.
At the undercard for UFC 274, we witnessed Ferguson got knocked out cold, something many never expected to happen no matter how low Tony’s career went. If that wasn’t bad enough, the knockout came at a time when Tony had looked like his former self, for the first time in almost 2 years and 12 rounds of fighting.
Landing a flush hook on Chandler that stumbled the former Bellator Champion and also working the signature “El Cucuy” elbows from his back when Chandler took him down. Almost every UFC athlete came in support of Ferguson, and the lightweight champion, Charles Oliveira even offered to train with him.
In his Tweet, he wrote, “We’re among big dogs, up&downs are part of our jorneys. I admire you a lot Tony Ferguson. You’ve the history inside the Octagon. Head up “El Cucuy”! If you wish, let’s train together in ChuteBoxe’s hedquarter in São Paulo for your nxt fight. You’re a brother!”

“I’m ready to be part of a team again”- Tony Ferguson is ready to switch up his training methods
Ferguson took this loss like a champ, and he even congratulated Chandler for his win. Tony apologized to his fans for his performance, and he promised he’s come back better than ever.
He appeared in an interview with MMA Junkie, where he talked about this fight in great detail. He talked about the significance of a proper team when he said, “You have many, many people. But I haven’t put myself out there. I’m ready to be part of a team again. It was only when my team broke up that I felt really hurt that I moved areas, that I moved situations, switched management and all the above. I have to open myself up again to being coached at a high level.”
Talking about Oliveira’s offer, he said, “No, I don’t think it’s social media clout. I have to really reflect on what he said because Chute Boxe is a very good school. But he is in my weight class. I’m one of the only fighters that he hasn’t finished… I see myself competing against him again… I’m looking for local gyms that I’m not going to compete with.”
