Khabib Nurmagomedov versus Tony Ferguson was one fight that never happened. The fight was one of the most hyped, anticipated, and well-deserved in UFC history. Despite the fact that the two were scheduled to fight on a number of occasions. Khabib Nurmagomedov pulled out of the fight in October due to a knee issue.
The bout was later rescheduled for April of 2016. Tony had to withdraw from the fight with Khabib in April of 2016 due to a lung issue. The fight was rescheduled for UFC 209, however, the Dagestani fighter had a poor experience and felt unwell while attempting to lose weight.
He took another step back. The two were slated to fight at UFC 249 in April 2020. Unfortunately, Khabib was unable to compete due to the start of COVID-19 in Russia.
Tony instead fought Justin Gaethje in the UFC 249 main event, losing badly. People’s hopes of seeing these two fights were dashed when Tony went on a losing streak and Khabib retired after his victory against Justin.

When fighters retire, their feuds with opponents usually fade away as well, but Tony didn’t let Khabib off the hook so easily. He continued to poke fun at him, accusing him of “running away” from the fight. During The DC Check-In, Tony discusses his upcoming fight with Michael Chandler at UFC 274 with Daniel Cormier.
He mentioned Khabib voluntarily and stated, “I’m gonna be real, the last few fights I didn’t prepare like I should have. I didn’t take the opportunities I wanted to. I’m not gonna say on purpose, but I wanna be real. There was enough film out there for Khabib to take a fight and the p***y’s still running.”
Daniel being friends with Khabib, wanted to take a stand for him. He believed that the saga of him and Khabib should be long forgotten as he is retired and they were meant to fight years ago. Status Quo as of now has changed. “You recall that years after it is being done” says Daniel.
He also hinted that such a grudy attitude got Tony multiple defeats last year. Tony Ferguson sensed the backing of Khabib from Cormeir and stated “I know it burned you. Rogan and DC gonna talk so sh*t”. It seems like Tony is under the impression that Daniel is against him but the points made were coherent.
Ferguson was one of the most well-known fighters in the UFC, with moves that captivated both fans and critics. Ferguson will be up against Michael Chandler, who will be looking for his own much-needed victory. ‘Iron’ has gone 1-2 since making his UFC debut in 2021. Both have similar career histories and have recently lost to current champion Charles Oliveira and contender Justin Gaethje.
Given Tony’s terrible three-bout losing streak, the battle against Chandler is a must-win for him.
