“That cake eater motherf***er”- Tony Ferguson promises his next opponent will be Khabib Nurmagomedov
Tony Ferguson on Khabib Nurmagomedov
One matchup that never took place was Khabib versus Tony Ferguson. There was one of the most anticipated, hyped, and well-deserving battles in UFC history. However, a string of altercations between the two was arranged. In October, Nurmagomedov withdrew from the contest because of a knee issue. The game was therefore postponed until April 2016. In April 2016, Tony had to withdraw from his matchup with him due to a lung issue. The battle was then set to take place at UFC 209, but the Dagestani fighter became sick and had a bad time attempting to get in shape. He backed off once again.
The two were expected to face off again at UFC 249 in April 2020. Unfortunately, Khabib was unable to participate in COVID-19 because he was stuck in Russia at the time. Instead, Tony fought in the UFC 249 main event against Justin Gaethje and lost horribly. When Tony started losing and Khabib conceded victory over Justin, people’s expectations of seeing them square off were dashed. Despite his recent defeats, Ferguson was still one of the most well-liked athletes in the UFC, with manoeuvres that won over both supporters and detractors. Numerous observers predicted that Tony will defeat him using his particular fighting stance.
