“This time I wasn’t tested”- Tony Ferguson recalls unusual USADA conduct at UFC 274
Tony Ferguson talks about UFC 274
There have been new conversations about the use of PEDs in UFC and it has gained a lot of attention. After UFC 274, where Michael Chandler beat Tony Ferguson with a nasty Knockout, the fighter has been on radar of many fans and sport specialists for using steroids. Chandler is an exceptional athlete with incredible power and explosiveness along with an amazing body. Chandler looks like a bodybuilder rather than a UFC fighter which has raised various questions. Although there has been no proof for these accusations, the debate still continues to gain momentum.
Recently, retired UFC superstar Chael Sonnen made a video on the use of PEDs in 2022 on his YouTube channel. Sonnen claimed that the officials who are responsible for pointing out the use of PEDs are not efficient and many fighters are using it to their benefit. Sonnen, who has once failed a drug test for the use of testosterone, is totally against it now and shared what led him to stop using them . He said :
“The day they announced they were bringing in USADA [United States Anti-Doping Agency]… Somebody asked a question that had to do with baseball. Somehow baseball got brought up, use and steroids within baseball, and Dana said, ‘Well, it’s a guy hitting a ball with a stick. This is combat, where somebody can hurt or kill somebody by doing something secretly that’s against the rules.’ Boom! Changed me. Right there, that was the moment. I had to look at the man in the mirror. Woah, I got this all wrong”
Tony Ferguson seconds Chael Sonnen by sharing his awkward interaction at UFC 274
Ferguson took to Twitter to share what went down at UFC 274 regarding drug testing and how it was different from other instances.
Ferguson revealed that normally the tests are done as soon as fighters get into the arena but this time it was different. He wasn’t even tested a day before the fight at UFC 274. ‘El Cucuy’ also shared that UFC gave him to sign a beneficiary agreement which never happened in any of his previous fights.
“Usually @usantidoping tests as soon as I get into the arena, almost every time. This time I wasn’t tested day before or day of. They tried to have me sign a beneficiary agreement before I wrapped my hands, which never happened in any of my fights UFC 274,” wrote Ferguson.
As fans it’s hard to get any idea of the whole drug testing scenario in UFC. But fight fans still want to see fighters fight without any enhancement and cheating and not ruin the sport.
