“He knows he’ll get CUT!” Tony Ferguson stays unbothered by Khamzat Chimaev attempting to brawl multiple fighters before the UFC 279 presser

Tony Ferguson (L), Khamzat Chimaev (R).
Tony Ferguson is one of the all-time favourite fighters of MMA fans. They simply adore the Oxnard native, and for good reason too. Not only do his quirky mannerisms enthrall fans, but the way he fights is a spectacle as well.
Entering 2019, he was on a hot 12-fight win streak, having beaten top lightweight contenders like Anthony Pettis, Edson Barboza and Donald Cerrone.
Recently, he hasn’t looked great in the octagon. In 2020, after the cancellation of his much-anticipated title bout against Khabib Nurmagomedov, Ferguson took on another high-ranked contender in Justin Gaethje and got brutally pieced up, losing to fight by TKO in the last round.
The loss to Gaethje spiralled Ferguson’s downward descent, losing to Charles Oliveira, Beneil Dariush and most recently, to a brutal knockout by Michael Chandler.
At one point, he used to be one of the most feared opponents, owing to this awkward fighting style and antics within the cage. That era has ended, and now we get to see a slowly waning Ferguson.
At UFC 279, Ferguson was supposed to fight a tough Welterweight opponent, in the form of Chinese Li Jingliang. However, a change of fortunes, made him match-up with Nate Diaz, because of a succession of events transpired, one after the other in a domino fashion, when Khamzat Chimaev came in almost 8 pounds over the limit.
Tony Ferguson comes out un-involved in the UFC 279 scuffle involving 4 fighters on the main card

UFC 279 has been packed with intense drama. Firstly, most fight fans and experts lamented the UFC’s decision to throw in out-going Nate Diaz against a predator in the shape of Khamzat Chimaev. The presser for the event was cancelled by Dana White owing to a humongous scuffle backstage, which reportedly involved 4 of the 6 fighters supposed to be fighting on the main card.
The details are unclear, but Khamzat Chimaev (and, Darren Till), Kevin Holland and Nate Diaz have been confirmed to having been involved. Of all people to not get into the scrap, Tony Ferguson kept himself relatively clear of the ruckus.
In the immediate aftermath of the presser’s cancellation, Tony can be seen saying to the UFC embedded team, “Everybody was scrapping in the back. Khamzat was trying to get after everybody, except for me. He never said sh*t to me, I don’t give a f**k. He knows he’ll get cut!” This is truly idiosyncratic of Ferguson, who embodies the “indifferent attitude” in most of his appearances in front of the media, or in visual formats.
