Tony Ferguson is currently on a five-fight losing streak and has finished in every one of those fights. However, the 39-year-old says his better days are ahead of him. Recently, during the UFC 291, media day, Ferguson mentioned that he feels like he’s in his prime.
He said: “I feel at this point in time in my life, I’m barely hitting my prime, which is crazy..Nobody else is going to tell me (to retire),” Ferguson said. “They can propose or say, ‘Oh, Tony. Whatever. He’s going to retire.’ No, motherf*ckers. F*ck you. I’m going to be done when I want to be done. But I’m also going to have to do what I have to do to get to where I want to get. Five fights and a title, baby.”
Ferguson snapped when he was asked about retirement as the fighter mentioned that he doesn’t care what everybody is saying and no one can force him to retire. According to ‘El Cucuy’, he’s going to take his own decision and plans to fight five more fights and a title shot before quitting.
Justin Gaethje has faith in Tony Ferguson who promises to break his losing streak at UFC 291
Ferguson’s downfall is one of the most shocking ones in recent UFC history. The fighter is on a five-fight losing streak and given his age fans believed that Ferguson will most probably retire from UFC.
However, Ferguson has other plans which don’t involve retirement just yet. Justin Gaethje who is considered to be the fighter who first stopped Ferguson, recently in an interview gave his opinion on Ferguson’s return.
He said at the media day of UFC 291: “For one, I think he’s crazy enough for that not even to be a possibility. I think we play a rough game. It’s so unforgiving. I think he won the first round against Michael Chandler – I think he dropped him. It’s a battle of confidence, a battle of believing in yourself, and there’s no doubt that something like that takes that away from you. You have to work hard to get it back. But he’s a fighter, through and through. I’ve got nothing but respect for him.”
Justin Gaethje explained that Ferguson is crazy and has the ability to make a comeback. Gaethje also mentioned how Ferguson won the first round against Michael Chandler and how much respect he has for Ferguson.
