UFC 292 lived up to its hype as Sean O’Malley knocked out champion Aljamain Sterling to clinch the bantamweight championship. The 2nd round knockout became the standout moment of the PPV. The crowd went wild after experiencing such a vicious finish. O’Malley literally shooked the world after this upset. However, it looked like he rehearsed for this moment in his training sessions.
Many even compared O’Malley’s knockout finish to the legendary Conor McGregor vs Jose Aldo fight. His right-hand punch to Sterling’s chin was way too perfect. A video surfacing online showed the exact same punch being practiced by O’Malley with head coach Tim Welch right before his fight. O’Malley has all the makings of being a superstar on par with McGregor.
O’Malley’s moment creates a perfect replica of McGregor’s knockout against Aldo. Many fans doubted O’Malley to repeat the upset as Conor did against Aldo. In the same way, O’Malley was a heavy underdog against Sterling, as most of the media predicted the former champ to defend his title. However, the new bantamweight champ proved his haters wrong by destroying his opponent with a beautiful right-hand finish.
There is no doubt that UFC 292 was the biggest moment of O’Malley’s career, and he went through it with his nerves locked. He finished the job to win the first title of his MMA career in historic fashion. In his post-fight interview, O’Malley claimed that the “Suga” era has just begun. Many more challenges will fall in O’Malley’s path as the champion awaits his first title defense against speculated opponent Marlon “Chito” Vera in December.

“Suga” Sean O’Malley won his first-ever UFC title to become the new bantamweight champion of the UFC. His jaw-dropping finish against former champ Aljamain Sterling sent shockwaves around the MMA world.
At the post-fight press conference of UFC 292, Sean O’Malley was asked about his thoughts on Round 1 of the fight. The champ backed his calm approach in Round 1 and spoke about his patience leading to the knockout. Despite a good performance, one of the interviewers claimed that the judges gave the first round to Sterling. O’Malley took a second and calmly questioned the judge’s scorecard for the 2nd round.
