Young prospect Raul Rosas Jr made his main card PPV debut at UFC 287. He became the youngest fighter to compete in the UFC and the youngest fighter to win a fight in the UFC. However, his main card debut did not go as expected, as the young star took on Christian Rodriguez in a losing effort.
Heading into the bout, Rodriguez missed weight during the weigh-in, forfeiting 20 percent of his fight purse to Rosas Jr. However, young Raul Rosas Jr got on the offensive when the fight started. He pressured Rodriguez in the first round, and Rodriguez somehow escaped the Rear-Naked Choke submission attempt. However, after the first round, it looked like Rosas Jr ran out of steam.
Christian Rodriguez remained calm even during adverse situations in the fight. However, the tide started changing in the second round, and Rodriguez took control of the fight. According to the stats, Rodriguez landed 83/115 total strikes, with 29/52 significant strikes. He was landing shots at more than 50 percent in the fight. He also showcased excellent takedown defense, stuffing 13 takedown attempts from Rosas Jr.
Raul Rosas Jr came with much hype, considering his impactful performance at Dana White’s Contender Series. However, it looks like Rodriguez will take some of that hype with him after a masterful performance against the young prospect. Rosas Jr is still young, he has plenty of room to improve, but Rodriguez has become a star after derailing a hype train.

Raul Rosas Jr lost the bout at UFC 287 to Christian Rodriguez unanimously. The judges scored the contest 29-28, 29-28, and 29-28 to declare Rodriguez as the winner. It appears fight fans were not thrilled with the performance of Raul Rosas Jr. However, he is young, and these lessons can help him become a better fighter. On the other hand, Christian Rodriguez can continue to build up his UFC career after the derailment of the hype train.
