Tyla Laura Seethal went against the odds competing for the Grammys alongside legends like Burna Boy, Asake, Davido, and more. Nonetheless, she came up top and won the award. Likewise, UFC fighter Dricus Du Plessis fought against the odds to just get into title contention. Especially, many wrote him off in his fight against Robert Whittaker, but the South African produced a huge upset by knocking him out.
Du Plessis after his impressive win over Robert Whittaker went on to fight for the title. As such, he faced Sean Strickland at UFC 297 this year. After five grueling rounds, he came victorious via split decision. With this win, he became the first South African UFC champion. As such, he was elated when Tyla Laura Seethal, a fellow woman from his country won a prestigious award on a global stage.
Dricus Du Plessis wants to bring UFC to South Africa
Dricus Du Plessis was a proud South African who made history by becoming the first UFC champion from the country. However, he had bigger goals as he now aimed to bring the UFC to South African soil. Also, the UFC teased an event in Africa for years. But, it never came to fruition for various reasons.

In his recent interview with ‘KFM 94.5’, Dricus Du Plessis expressed his wish to bring UFC to South Africa. He was so determined that he was even ready to wait out a couple of months to make it happen. As such, he wanted to create a legacy by headlining a UFC card on African soil. Here is what he said:
I want to bring the UFC to South Africa. That’s what needs to happen. That’s legacy. If I have to wait it out a couple of months, I’m willing to do that. UFC on African soil, on home soil in South Africa has never been done. That’s legacy, that’s going to be remembered forever. That’s what we wantDricus Du Plessis (via KFM 94.5)
Dricus Du Plessis earlier called out Israel Adesanya in his post-fight presentations. The fight was to happen when Adesanya held the belt but Sean Strickland spoiled the plans. Now, considering both are of African descent, a UFC card in Africa looked more promising than ever. Also, UFC CEO, Dana White, mentioned being serious about UFC Africa with Dricus Du Plessis as the champion.
