Diego Lopes set the main card of UFC 295 on fire with a brutal 1st round KO victory over Philadelphia’s Pat Zabatini. Lopes is now poised to earn his third consecutive post-fight bonus. This was his second consecutive first-round finish after the first-round finish of Gavin Tucker at UFC Fight Night: Sandhagen vs Font.

The fight began with both fighters trying to take the center of the octagon. However, a quick right hook by Zabatini caught Lopes’ attention. Zabatini then went to take Lopes down but in the ensuing scramble got hit by a quick uppercut that wobbled him. Lopes smelled blood and followed up with combinations that put Zabatini down. The referee stopped the bout after successive ground and pound made Zabatini unresponsive.

The win was Lopes’s second consecutive first-round finish. Lopes now has 21 finishes in 23 wins, with 14 of those in the first round. Lopes entered the UFC with a short-notice fight against Russia’s undefeated Movsar Evloev. The Mexican fighter came close to finishing Evloev in the fight that he eventually lost. However, Dana White was very impressed by the performance of Lopes. Similarly, Lopes did the same at UFC 295. Immediately after the victory, Lopes went near Dana White to ask for a bonus.

Dana White was seated near Donald Trump, and the former US President applauded the performance of Lopes. Jared Gordon and Benoit Saint-Denis have already knocked out Mark Madsen and Matt Frevola, respectively, in a brutal manner, thus making it tough for Lopes to get a bonus. Nevertheless, Dana White is known to bend the norms when he sees a massive performance.

Now, with a quick finish of the very tough Pat Zabatini, Lopes is poised to achieve great things in the featherweight division. Moreover, Lopes’ first introduction to UFC was as the Jiu-Jitsu coach of Alexa Grasso, the UFC women’s flyweight champion.
