Leon Edwards and Colby Covington headlined the UFC 296 fight card with ‘Rocky’ putting his welterweight title on the line. Covington shed animosity and heated the pre-fight period with his trash-talking abilities. Unfortunately, he went too far by remarking about Edwards’ late father in the UFC 296 press conference. Now, UFC middleweight Bo Nickal gave his opinion about Covington’s antics and his fight.
Bo Nickal in his recent video on his YouTube channel called Colby Covington a ‘low character’. He wasn’t a fan of his trash-talk and trashed ‘Chaos’ for his words at the UFC 296 pressers. Also, he wondered about the state of trash-talking in combat sports and questioned its relevance. Further, he mentioned that Covington crossed a line and wasn’t a good person.
The trash talk in MMA has been intense. It’s been crazy. It’s insane. I don’t know why people are doing that. It’s too much. If you want to say something like that to somebody, it doesn’t matter: You’re just kind of a bad person, especially if you just double down over and over. I just feel like that’s not good character. It’s low character, and you’re not a good person.Bo Nickal (via his YouTube)
Although Colby Covington managed to break Leon Edwards’ emotional stability during the pressers, he wasn’t able to replicate it in the octagon. ‘Rocky’ came in composed and followed his game plan to get a dominant decision win. As such, Bo Nickal criticized ‘Chaos’ for his performance and applauded Edwards’ showcase.
Bo Nickal last fought Val Woodburn at UFC 290 and secured a spectacular first-round knockout. This put the middleweight division on notice. Now, he made the headlines after UFC CEO Dana White announced Nickal’s fight in the historic UFC 300 card. As such, he will face Cody Brundage at UFC 300.
Bo Nickal was not impressed with Colby Covington’s wrestling
Bo Nickal gave his opinion about Colby Covington’s wrestling last year. He was called on by Jorge Masvidal to help him train for his fight against ‘Chaos’ in UFC 272. As such, Nickal studied Covington and tried to simulate his moves in training. On that note, in an interview with MMA Junkie, Nickal criticized the wrestling of the fellow American.

In his interview, Bo Nickal said Colby Covington’s wrestling wasn’t on par with his. However, he mentioned that ‘Chaos’ was a decent wrestler and had many accolades. Further, he praised Covington for his cardio and pressure capabilities. But he wasn’t impressed with his wrestling abilities. Here is what he said:
I mean, it’s OK. It’s decent. Obviously he wrestled Division I and stuff, so he’s no slouch, and he knows what he’s doing. But I feel like compared to what I’m used to at Penn State and the level that I’m used to, it’s not really similar. I think more than anything he has good pressure, but wrestling capabilities, I’m not very impressed with what he does.Bo Nickal (via MMA Junkie)
Although Bo Nickal helped Jorge Masvidal in preparation, Colby Covington came out as the victor comfortably. Now, after over a year, Masvidal has retired and Covington recently fought Leon Edwards for the title. As such, Nickal once again criticized ‘Chaos’ for his performance at UFC 296. Also, ever since, Nickal has gone 2-0 in the UFC and is looking to extend it to 3-0 by next year.
