“Have been kicking the idea of it,” UFC legend Frankie Edgar to officially retire after next fight

Frankie Edgar

Frankie Edgar had the best and the worst days of his life in the sport where he fought the elite of the elite for more than 15 years, and now it’s high time for this future Hall of Famer to sing his swan song. Edgar is the former UFC Lightweight champion, the man he had to dethrone for the belt was none other than BJ Penn. Just a wrestler from Toms River, New Jersey, United States, Edgar was the smallest fighter for the 155 lbs yet he managed to reign supreme and give the fans a series of memorable fights.

Edgar is tied with BJ Penn, Khabib Nurmagomedov and Benson Henderson for the most title defences in UFC Lightweight history. Edgar eventually also fought in the featherweight and bantamweight divisions as well. His wins include the likes of Penn, Tyson Griffin, Gray Maynard, Chad Mendes, Charles Oliveira, Cub Swanson, Urijah Faber, Jeremy Stephens, Yair Rodriguez, Pedro Munhoz and many more.

Frankie Edgar talks about the idea of retirement, his aspiration to fight his last fight at Madison Square Garden and much more in a conversation with Brett Okamoto.

“I’ve been kicking the idea of retiring around since my last fight,” says Edgar in an interview for ESPN MMA “Last couple of fights obviously didn’t go well… If I’m being honest, I’d like to fight forever you know but that’s kind of selfish to my family and to the people that care about me. So I think I need to kinda announce my retirement, have my retirement fund so I can you know, sail off in the sunset a little bit,” he concludes.
