Khabib Nurmagomedov announced his retirement from MMA in October 2020 after his fight with Justin Gaethje in UFC 254. Currently, Nurmagomedov spends his time as a part of the Russian promotion company Eagle Fighting Championship. Furthermore, Nurmagomedov also spends his time coaching and being the cornerman for his fellow Kazakhstan fighters
In an interview, Nurmagomedov once shared his opinions about the UFC and boxing as a sport. Subsequently, Nurmagomedov stated, “How many years we waiting like Pacquiao vs. Mayweather, how many years we waiting Wilder vs. Fury, they have like 100-0, 100-0. You know, people beg, hey please, make this fight.”
Hence, while comparing the UFC and boxing, Nurmagomedov stated that the UFC makes fights happen between winners and champions. However, Nurmagomedov feels that in boxing, people must wait a long time to see their dream matchup.
Nurmagomedov gave the example of how long the Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather fight took or the Deontay Wilder vs. Tyson Fury. Subsequently, Nurmagomedov stated that boxing fans have to beg for fights that should have already happened.
Is Khabib Nurmagomedov one of the greatest UFC fighters
During his time as champion, Nurmagomedov set the record for the most successful title defenses in UFC lightweight history. As such, Nurmagomedov stopped three remarkable challengers in their attempts to unseat him as the champion.
The three challengers were former undisputed lightweight champion Conor McGregor, who had a personal feud with Nurmagomedov. In addition, Nurmagomedov also effortlessly defeated former interim champions Justin Gaethje and Dustin Poirier. Furthermore, Nurmagomedov’s dominance over these fighters during their fights was more impressive than the victory itself. Subsequently, Nurmagomedov was able to set the pace of those fights, and he ended each fight with a different choke and won via submission.
In addition, Nurmagomedov has remained undefeated throughout his career and has only lost two rounds in his entire MMA career. Moreover, Nurmagomedov never received a cut or a bruise across his tenure as a UFC fighter and won every fight in a dominant manner.
