Thiago Santos vs Jamahal Hill is almost here! The light heavyweight fight will headline the main card for UFC Vegas 59 as they are scheduled for all five rounds in the UFC’s return home from the road. With only a few days left for a new order to come up at Light Heavyweight let us take a preview of the fight, the betting odds, and even give out our predictions.
Both fighters have had impressive runs in the UFC and will be looking to make their way to the title. Santos will be looking to make it right from the time when he lost a close championship fight to Jon Jones. Jamahal on the other hand is still comparatively green to the UFC but has made a big splash regardless. Let us have a look at the path both these fighters came up on leading to their UFC Vegas 59 clash.
UFC Vegas 59: Thiago Santos vs Jamahal Hill Fight Preview
This main event will feature two heavy hitters as they try to one-up each other in one of the most exciting divisions in the UFC. Santos as we mentioned earlier fought Jones for the title in 2019 and came up short on the judge’s scorecards. While many argued that he should have won the fight, universal praise was sent the Brazillian’s way when it was made public that he had shattered both his knees during the fight and yet managed to continue.
Prior to this Santos was a machine of pure violence, having 11 finishes to his name in the UFC alone. However, since the Jones fight and the lengthy rehabilitation, he seemed to have lost his touch a little. This wasn’t helped by the fact that he was paired up against Glover Texiera the future champion, and later against Aleksandar Rakic, a rising young contender. Santos was able to finally get back into the win column with a UD victory over Johnny WalkerWalker. In his very next fight, he was paired up against another dangerous contender in Magimed Ankalaev, losing via UD.
Hill on the other hand at 31 has a very long career ahead of him. Entering the UFC through the 21st season of DWCS, since then all but one of his 4 wins in the UFC were by way of a finish. Hill is known to be a power puncher that holds the Dim Mak within his palm.
The only setback of his UFC career came against Paul Craig when he was unable to continue due to a dislocated shoulder, falling victim to Craig’s ground and pound. He bounced back in emphatic fashion with two first-round KOs of Jimmy Crute and Johny Walker. Currently ranked #10 a win over Thiago Santos(#6) will speed up his ascension to the top of the division.
UFC Vegas 59: Thiago Santos vs Jamahal Hill Fight Predictions and Betting Odds
While this is undoubtedly a unique match-up that can have one of two results. Since it’s been forever since we’ve seen a Thiago Santos finish, it’d be safe to his best chance against Hill would be on the ground or outside the young fighter’s range.
Hill is a blue belt in BJJ compared to Santos who is a blackbelt. However, at the end of the day, Father Time seems to have caught up with Thiago especially due to his horrible knee injury back in 2019. For this reason alone we favor the young gun to walk out with a quick finish over the two-division UFC veteran.
Firstsportz Prediction: Jamahal Hill by TKO R1.
For the fans who’re looking to make some money out of this fight, the official betting lines are here. As of now, Santos is a +265 underdog while Hill a -265 favorite. How do you think the fight plays out this weekend?
