“Nobody wants to fight him” – Team Khabib’s Umar Nurmagomedov desperate for fight, calls out Deiveson Figueiredo

Bantamweight is one of the stacked divisions in the UFC. As such, It is filled with immense talent and exciting fighters. However, the undefeated Umar Nurmagomedov has found it difficult to book an opponent. So, he went on X to call out Deiveson Figueiredo, who recently moved up from the flyweight category. Also, Nurmagomedov recently had a back-and-forth exchange with the bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley.

Earlier, Umar Nurmagomedov was scheduled to face Cory Sandhagen in August 2023. However, the fight fell through after Nurmagomedov pulled out, citing an injury. As such, he lost his chance to fight a higher-ranked opponent. So, he looked for other viable options, but no one seemed to accept a fight against him. Therefore, Nurmagomedov took it into his own hands to call out Deiveson Figueiredo on X.

Deiveson Figueiredo debuted in the bantamweight division against Rob Font earlier this month. He won the fight on the judges’ scorecards. With this, he also earned a spot in the rankings (#8) of the 135lbs division. As such, a long-time bantamweight, Umar Nurmagomedov, never got a chance to fight higher in the rankings and got frustrated after fellow bantamweights refused to fight him.

Umar Nurmagomedov won his previous fight against Raoni Barcelos in January 2023. Since then, he hadn’t returned to the octagon. He went after Deiveson Figueiredo after blaming the 135ers for refusing to fight him. Moreover, Nurmagomedov was desperate and showed eagerness to fight anyone despite who the opponent was. As such, he also agreed to a comment that asked him to fight Jonathan Martinez.

Fans react to Umar Nurmagomedov’s callout to Deiveson Figueiredo

Umar Nurmagomedov struggled to book an opponent for his next fight. As such, he took the initiative and called out Deiveson Figueiredo. ‘Deus Da Guerra’ is the former flyweight champion of the UFC. However, he lost his title in January 2023. Later, he moved up to bantamweight after having rough weight cuts. So, Nurmagomedov wanted to give him a welcome treat.

Deiveson Figueiredo had already made his bantamweight debut in December 2023. After winning the bout, he hoped to go for the title soon. But, since the bantamweight division was stacked, Figueiredo would need to rack up wins to get a top contender’s fight or a title fight. As such, the undefeated Nurmagomedov would be the perfect choice. However, the ranking difference between them was huge. Anyway, here is how the fight fans reacted to his callout:

Fight Fans mercilessly trolled Umar Nurmagomedov for his call-out. They bashed him for pulling out of his earlier fights and commented it was why fighters didn’t agree to fight him. However, Nurmagomedov was confident in his abilities and wanted to face someone soon.
