Middleweight fighter Sean Strickland’s dominant performance at UFC Vegas 76 left many fighters talking. His former opponent and now training partner Alex Pereira also could not stay without talking about his win. However, according to Pereira, he expected Strickland to win and even wagered $10,000 against Magomedov’s manager.
Going into the fight, Abus Magomedov was a huge favorite due to his Dagestani background. In the first round of the bout, Abus started out aggressive and looked like he could take down Strickland. However, the same performance did not last very long as the Magomedov started gassing out in the second round. Eventually, he was cornered by Strickland and lost via a TKO. Former middleweight champion Pereira knew Abus had a padded record. He even tried betting Abus Magomedov’s whole purse against his manager.
Alex Pereira uploaded a video on his YouTube channel where he talked about the bet. The Brazilian cleared that Abus had a fake record and it would have been impossible to win against Strickland. He was also sure Magomedov’s cardio would take a hit and Sean would start pressuring him soon. Alex Pereira additionally decided to bet Magomedov’s purse. This news quickly reached Magomedov’s manager, who contacted a reporter doing media rounds and the whole story gained momentum.
Pereira tried to figure out a way to deposit $10,000 from both parties involved before the match. However, that did not work and the bet was off. While the bet was off, Alex’s prediction was on point. Had everything been sorted, he would have easily won the bet without any hiccups.

After losing his title to Israel Adesanya, former middleweight champion, Alex Pereira decided to make a move to the light heavyweight division. Pereira has a very huge frame for the middleweight division and goes through harsh weight cuts every time to make 185 lbs. His move to the light heavyweight division was highly appreciated by his coach and former light heavyweight champion Glover Teixeira.
During his UFC Fight Pass Invitational 4 post-match conference interview, Teixeira explained that Alex went through taxing weight cuts. He also added that the intense weight cuts would not benefit his health as Pereira kept aging. Alex’s move to light heavyweight provided a certain sense of relief to Glover, who was worried about Pereira’s health and performance.
“When he said he was going to light heavyweight, I was like, ‘I love it’ because I don’t want to see him cutting that much weight. You don’t know how much that guy cuts. He’s 230 pounds right now and he’s lean,” said Teixeira.
As of now, Alex is around 230 lbs and quite lean for his weight. He will go against former light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz at UFC 291. Teixeira believes Alex has an easy chance of winning the fight and ruling the division.
