Valentina Shevchenko is among the most well-rounded fighters in the UFC’s women’s division. She is known for her elite skills inside the octagon and for supporting women when they are offended. She notably criticized Khabib Nurmagomedov when he deemed ring card girls useless in MMA. Now, Valentina Shevchenko strongly countered Sean Strickland‘s recent derogatory tweet on X (formerly Twitter) with a tweet of her own. It was about Women’s MMA.

Sean Strickland recently sparked controversy with his negative remarks against Paige VanZant, a former UFC strawweight. Strickland used the opportunity to bash Women’s MMA as a whole, citing the example of Paige VanZant. It did not sit well with Shevchenko. This is what Valentina Shevchenko tweeted countering Sean Strickland:

Interesting unpack here ? That looks more like an offended kid, who got less money in his entire fighter career than female fighters do! ? Good try, maybe UFC will see that and add some cash ? to your purse next time. But for now naked is you are ?

Shevchenko believed that Strickland was offending women out of jealousy. She insinuated that Strickland received significantly lower pay than female fighters, and that’s why he expressed dissent towards women’s MMA. It is important to note that no factual evidence supports that female fighters are paid more than the current middleweight champion. However, Paige VanZant once claimed to have made more money doing OnlyFans than fighting inside the octagon.

Strickland is notorious for his remarks against women. He has publicly stated that he does not like women’s MMA and does not watch it. Interestingly, Strickland would make his first title defense in January 2024 against Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 297. It would be safe to assume that female fighters would be cheering for Du Plessis to be the first ‘African-born African-residing’ champion in the UFC.

Sean Strickland continues his scathing remarks on women’s MMA

Even after getting negative publicity with his remarks against Paige VanZant, it did not stop Sean Strickland from stopping his negative remarks on female MMA. In a recent tweet, Strickland likened Lion’s fighting to that of men fighting and cats fighting to that of women.

It needs to be noted many, including former women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko have bashed Strickland online for his comments. Strickland making insensitive comments towards women remains nothing new and did not surprise the MMA community.

Nevertheless, Strickland deeply loves his girlfriend, who changed his life for the better. Many, including his coach, Eric Nicksick, have credited her for Strickland becoming the middleweight champion at UFC 293.

The UFC and Dana White do not interfere with the personal views of its fighters. Therefore, Strickland can express his views without repercussions from the promotion. This is a big difference from the top sports leagues in the USA, like the NBA, NFL, and MLB, where their personal views could even result in suspension from the games.
