“She was completely different”- Valentina Shevchenko reveals who she backs in the upcoming fight between Amanda Nunes and Julianna Peña
Valentina Shevchenko Amanda Nunes Julianna Pena
Valentina Shevchenko believes Amanda Nunes wasn’t in the right headspace in her last title defense against Julianna Pena. Last year at UFC 269, UFC fans experienced one of the most shocking upsets in recent history when Pena beat Nunes and became the new Bantamweight champion. Nunes got that title back in 2016 and since then has defended the title six times. Subsequently, the Brazilian also defended her Featherweight title two times making her the greatest female UFC fighter of all time.
However, nobody expected that Nunes would lose the fight against Pena so easily. This weekend inside the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, the duo will meet again for the championship. This is an opportunity for Nunes to take her revenge and rebuild her legacy. On the other hand, ‘ The Venezuelan Vixen ‘ will be looking forward to continuing her reign as the undisputed champion.

Valentina Shevchenko backs Amanda Nunes to win the upcoming women’s Bantamweight fight
Shevchenko recently appeared on THE MMA HOUR SHOW hosted by Ariel Helwani in which she discussed her opinions on the much-anticipated fight between Pena and Nunes.
While choosing her side, Shevchenko clearly stated that she thinks Nunes is going to win. The fighter revealed that in Nunes’s last fight where she lost her belt, she didn’t look her usual. Shevchenko raised questions about Nunes’s personal problems such as family, training camp, etc getting in her way of preparation. According to the Russian, Nunes was a completely different fighter in comparison to the one Shevchenko fought back in 2017. Shevchenko assured that if Nunes goes back to her old self she will definitely win this fight.
“I think Amanda wins. Because I felt in her last fight against Julianna, she kind of didn’t look like herself. I don’t know what factors affected that. Family, training camp, friends at the gym, or whatever but she didn’t look the same way when we fought. She was completely different. Body type, mental type, focus type, completely different. So my thoughts, if she will be the same Amanda who I know, she will win the fight,” said Shevchenko.
Shevchenko herself is a legend of the sport and is currently ruling over the women’s flyweight division. The fighter is currently on a nine-fight win streak but her last loss was against Nunes in a Bantamweight showdown. It seems like Shevchenko has confidence in her old rival to fight back and get back the title she lost.
