Shevchenko is the second UFC flyweight champion in history and is reigning over the division for nearly 4 years since she defeated the strawweight great Joanna Jedrzejczyk back in 2018. Shevchenko has defended her title a record 6 times now. Her wins include the likes of Joanna, Julianna Pena, Sarah Kauffman, Holly Holm, Jessica Eye, Liz Carmouche, Katlyn Chookagian, Jennifer Maia, Jessica Andrade and many more.

Shevchenko has an elite background in Muay Thai and has been into the “martial art of 8 limbs” since the age of 14. So her standup game is one of the best to have been ever witnessed in MMA history. Her way of mixing her strikes of linear motion like teep kicks with those of circular motion like spinning kicks is like a perfect flow state of combat. But over the years, Shevchenko improved her grappling to such an extent that she was dominating with her ground game more than her stand up and eventually got incredible submission victories in her career. Shevchenko even started to knock her opponents out via ground and pound.

Shevchenko’s next opponent, Taila Santos, might be the toughest test of her career. Santos is a heavy striker with her knockout victories being more than 3 times her submission victories. Santos’ only MMA loss in her 20-fight career so far, was a very close split decision. So Santos has a pretty good record on paper to compete with Shevchenko. She is 5-1 in her overall MMA career.

Shevchenko has already displayed her toughness on the ground as well despite her elite striking background and Santos is yet to prove if we can get the job done on the ground.
