Bobby Green will headline UFC Fight Night 229 against Grant Dawson on October 7. Green expressed his interest in fighting Max Holloway during the media day interview. Green was asked about Holloway, to which he showed immense respect for the former champion’s caliber.
Holloway’s name came up after Green thought about fighters with flair and spunk. Green was ecstatic with enthusiasm for a potential clash with Max Holloway. When asked about Max Holloway as a fighter, Green said, “Holloway is dope. I got nothing but respect for those type of guys like that.” he further elaborated his ideas about fighting Holloway, saying, “And then we gonna both talk to each other. We gonna talk shit too and beat each other up. That’s a sick a** fight.” Both Green and Holloway are known to talk to their opponents inside the octagon.
Green is coming off a submission victory over Tony Ferguson at UFC 291. Holloway was last seen inside the octagon in the main event of UFC Singapore. “Blessed” knocked out Chan Sung Jung, a.k.a “The Korean Zombie” in the bout. Green’s upcoming opponent is Grant Dawson, currently ranked 10th in the UFC lightweight division.
Grant Dawson is an emerging threat in the lightweight division. The fighter is known for his exceptional grappling prowess. Dawson has an affinity for locking in quick body triangles. “King” is susceptible to grapplers, and it remains to be seen what tactics Green would employ to thwart the grappling of Dawson. It must also be noted that Islam Makhachev fought for the title after defeating Green.
When Islam Makhachev got a title shot after defeating Bobby Green
Islam Makhachev’s final fight before becoming the champion came against Bobby Green in a catchweight bout. It was a 160lbs catchweight main event for UFC Fight Night 202. This was a memorable win for Makhachev as Green came in at the last moment, and people noticed Makhachev’s ability to change his plan quickly.
MMA legend Khabib Nurmagomedov was in Makhachev’s corner during the fight. At the time, Justin Gaethje and Charles Oliveira were set to face off for the lightweight title. Abu Dhabi is important in MMA and is a special place for fighters like Makhachev and others with an Islamic faith. Moreover, Abu Dhabi connects them to their Muslim background.
Makhachev would go on to face Charles Oliveira at UFC 280 and would win the vacant lightweight title. The title became vacant after Oliveira missed weight by 0.5lbs at UFC 274 against Justin Gaethje.
