UFC vet and Welterweight division top contender Vicente Luque was coming in UFC Vegas 59 to get back to the win column. Luque had lost to Belal Muhammad in his last outing in April this year. The Silent Assassin was set to face Geoff Neal in a 3-round Welterweight showdown.

Coming into the fight The Silent Assassin was on a one-fight losing skid after his 4-fight win streak was shattered by Belal Muhammad. After losing to Stephen Thompson back in 2019, Vicente Luque went on to defeat his next four opponents. Two of his opponents include former UFC champion Tyron Woodley and UFC vet, Michael Chiesa.

On the other hand, Geoff Neal had recently bounced back in the win column defeating Santiago Ponzinibbio at UFC 269. Neal was on a 2 fight-losing skid before UFC 269. Neal was looking to get a win against Luque to move one step further in getting a title shot for the Welterweight crown.

UFC Vegas 59 co-main event was a thrilling matchup of the two welterweights. The fight was back-and-forth between the two. Neal took the lead in the first round, arguably winning it by 10-8. However, Luque bounced back in round two and the competition went into the final round.

Neal managed to score a Knockout, with a flurry of punches to bag the win. This loss was the first ever KO loss for The Silent Assasin in his MMA carrier. He had never been KO’d before. His previous losses were either from Decision or Submission.

Following his loss, Luque shared a picture from his hospital bed on his Instagram story giving an update on his condition. The fighter shared his selfie with a caption, “#SoYouWantToBeAFighter”.
