Conor McGregor is the biggest star in the history of the UFC. And within the octagon, he has several accolades that other fighters only dream of having. But it wasn’t always like this.
A video of Conor McGregor resurfaced and fans ran with it. In the video, Conor can be seen participating in a jiu-jitsu tournament, long, long before he ever stepped into the UFC octagon. In the video, Conor can be seen mounting his opponent who is fighting off of his back.
The two then scramble as The Notorious’ opponent tries to lock an armbar on him. At one point, Conor even attempts to lock in a guillotine on his opponent. It’s safe to say Conor’s grappling has improved by leaps and bounds since.
This video in 2022 is almost jarring. Watching Conor McGregor, who can fill stadiums on any given day, compete in front of what looks like barely an audience of 100 is strange, to say the least. Now Conor is a star who was a part of all of the top 5 best-selling PPVs in UFC history. However, this video also goes to show that no matter how great, even stars begin at the bottom of the pecking order.
Conor McGregor may be back in the octagon by mid to late 2023
Dana White had earlier announced that Conor McGregor had exited USADA’s testing pool. And as everyone knows, every active fighter must be in the testing pool for at least 6 months before they can compete under the UFC’s banner. Despite this, the Irishman voluntarily left the testing pool ahead of his starring role in the Road House remake.
However, a few days ago, the former double champ sent out another tweet in which he confirmed that he would be reentering the USADA drug testing pool. Conor’s Tweet read, “I am clear for testing in February. I will complete my two tests per USADA and we are booking a fight.” And this revelation from McGregor came as a shock to everyone.
Judging by his current size and appearance, many had assumed that Conor would never return to actively compete in the UFC. However, with his Twitter tirades in the last week or so, it seemed as if The Notorious had a renewed zeal regarding the sport. He took shots at everyone, including Joe Rogan and his former rival, Khabib Nurmagomedov. But, all fans can do is wait as they anticipate the octagon return of The Notorious.
