UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley put on arguably one of the best performances of his career at UFC 292. His striking prowess against former champion Aljamian Sterling truly shocked fans. O’Malley and his trainer Tim Welch expressed their worries about fighting Sterling on the “Raw Talk” podcast hosted by fitness influencer Bradley Martyn before the fight.

O’Malley spoke about his grappling setback and muscle strain in a deleted clip from the podcast. He believed he would have pulled out if it weren’t a title fight. He said, “If it was just a co-main event three-round fight I would pull out. There is a possibility of him choking me”. When asked about his opponent, O’Malley agreed that Sterling would be the toughest opponent he faced. Welch also revealed that this fight camp was the toughest in O’Malley’s career.

O’Malley revealed his gameplan for the fight, which consisted of keeping the fight on foot at all times and not letting Sterling take him down. He also spoke about not grappling once during training due to a muscle strain in his abdomen. O’Malley spoke on the knockout punch he wanted to deliver and shared his confidence with Welch about his striking.

Suga also compared his preparation for the fight to Conor McGregor vs Jose Aldo. Ironically the knockout punch landed by O’Malley was uncannily similar to McGregor’s knockout over Aldo. McGregor had the southpaw stance, whereas O’Malley remained in an Orthodox stance. Fans appreciated the honesty of O’Malley and praised him for being humble.

Bradley Martyn has been making headlines for inviting fighters on his podcast and asking them if they could beat him in a street fight. He received major backlash for undermining a fighter’s professional status and only believing in his size and muscle. O’Malley spoke about Martyn’s ability and a potential fight against Mike Perry with Tim Welch.

Welch spoke about training with Martyn and how he attempted to put the bodybuilder in a triangle. He said Martyn could lift him only 2-3 inches above the ground, but that was enough for him to believe he would have slammed Welch on the head. However, Welch and O’Malley did not forget about Martyn’s size and said that if he got a hold of a person in a street fight, it would be a problem.

He even asked O’Malley about his chances in a street fight against the bodybuilder. Welch also mentioned that Martyn only jokes about these things and was a cool guy to be friends with. It remains to be seen how Martyn actually fares in a fight against a proper fighter.
