Khamzat Chimaev is in talks to be newly minted light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira‘s next opponent. With the former repeatedly making subsequent callouts to the “Poatan”. Pereira recently won his title, with a spectacular victory against Jiri Prochazka at UFC 295. Chimaev’s UFC 278 weight-cut flub prompted his exit out of the main event against Nate Diaz.

Since then the fighter has been nudged to move up to middleweight. The fighter, himself, has also expressed interest in the same. As of late though, the Poatan hilariously trolled him on the sore subject.

Pereira is famed for his stoic and silent disposition. But in a first, Alex Pereira has taken to social media, to troll Chimaev, with a classic scene. “Poatan” shared a clip from the 2004 Chinese action comedy Kung Fu Hustle on Instagram. Pereira shared the dubbed clip with the translated caption:

The scene has the protagonist (Stephen Chow) cycling through a gathered crowd looking for someone to fight. Each selection, however, proves to be more formidably remarkable, and he chooses to reject each one. This throws shade upon Chimaev’s latest performance at UFC 294. Pereira has also been very dismissive of Chimaev’s latest callouts, as such.

After Pereira’s third win over Israel Adesanya, Chimaev stepped up his pursuit of a middleweight fight with an overdrive. He himself has recently faced off with Kamaru Usman, at UFC 294. Although the Russian-born Swede won, he faced heavy opposition. Chimaev exhausted himself in the very first round and had even injured his arm.

Alex Pereira opened up about his alcoholic past

Alex “Poatan” Pereira made history with his KO victory over Jiri Prochazka, at UFC 295. The 9-2-0 mixed martial artist and kickboxer received high praise, from fans and peers alike. Even Prochazka himself commended the opponent and his knockout.

But things were not always this bright for the Brazilian star. Pereira got into the curve of combat sports with kickboxing, at 21. Life, before that, was very different.

At the age of 12, the Brazilian quit school and got a job in a tire shop. There the crew ran on a steady stream of iced cachaças – a Brazilian rum, according to a Glory article by John O’Regan. Initially reluctant, by age 16 Pereira was correspondingly drinking a liter of the drink a day.

Adding to the pile was also quite a few pints of beer. In various interviews, Pereira recently opened up about his alcoholic tendencies and how he got over them.

Pereira’s stint as a worker at a tire shop has not gone unnoticed either. Time and again, he has revisited his roots. Fans have accordingly rejoiced at such a revelation, from the meager worker – to champion status.
