WATCH! Alex Pereira’s only loss in MMA was a vicious fist fest before getting submitted

Alex Pereira

Alex Pereira is definitely the fastest rising middleweight in the UFC whose next and third UFC bout is most likely to be a title fight against Israel Adesanya, but Pereira didn’t have a perfect beginning for his transition from kickboxing to MMA. Pereira last fought at UFC 276, in the undercard headlined by the middleweight champion Israel Adesanya himself. In just his second UFC fight, Pereira managed to knock out former #4 ranked middleweight Sean Strickland in the opening round.

Pereira is a former GLORY Kickboxer and the first kickboxer in history to simultaneously hold two belts in GLORY. Within his kickboxing tenure, Pereira has a couple of wins over Adesanya, with one of them being a spectacular knockout. Pereira had his first professional fight in MMA back in 2015 but made the complete transition into the sport from 2020 onwards after signing a one-fight deal with Legacy Fighting Alliance- LFA.

In a fight posted by a Twitter user, this clip may take you back to Pereira’s debut against Quemuel Ottoni at Jungle Fight 82 on October 24, 2015. The event took place in Sao Paulo, Brazil and was headlined by a lightweight title fight between Eric Barbosa and Ciro Rodrigues. Ottoni defeated Pereira via submission in the third round.

But before the finish, Ottoni stood his ground on his feet to stand and bang with a seasoned kickboxer which turned out to be an all-out war as written by the uploader of the clip in the caption. Watch it for yourself to witness an exciting piece of back and forth. Ottoni is currently 12-3 in his overall MMA career with an ongoing 5-fight winning streak and the last fight being with the Jungle Fight promotions only.

What do you make of Alex Pereira’s debut against Quemuel Ottoni? Do you think Pereira is still as vulnerable as shown in this fight or has his evolution closed spaces for any weakness to penetrate? Do you think Pereira will dethrone Israel Adesanya to become the new UFC middleweight champion? Where do you put Pereira amongst the greatest kickboxers of all time?
