WATCH: Benoit Saint-Dennis suffers a brutal injury as his toes “Rip in 2” during UFC Paris second-round TKO win
Benoit Saint-Dennis and his injured toe
Benoit Saint-Dennis knew that a chance like UFC Paris, where he got to fight in front of his home crowd would not be a regular occurrence. Hence he decided to make the most of it and have himself pushed onto the card, despite hiding something severe.
Benoit loves his country and this can be seen in his life prior to MMA where he served in the army and was a part of the french forces fighting the war in Mali, Africa. Even his wife is a national icon in sports and is the first woman to be trained in the French SWAT course. Hence it was obvious that he would not pass on an opportunity to shine in front of his countrymen
However, what Benoit Saint-Dennis had not disclosed was that he never was a full 100% leading up to the fight, a requirement to be cleared by the medical commission. In fact this would come to haunt him during the fight itself.

Benoit who was on the prelims facing Gabriel Miranda had not revealed to the commission that he was still to completely recover from an existing toe injury that had not yet healed completely. He suffered the injury in his second UFC appearance against Niklas Stolze. He won the fight via submission but had suffered a cut to the toe that was pretty severe.
immediately heading for surgery, Benoit figured he would be able to recover and be back in time to fight at the Paris card. Since his bout in June, the french fighter had decided to stay away from gyms, and even when he did train he had to do it with shoes on. “The last week I started feeling great but the toe, it was still a bit open”, said Benoit Saint-Dennis as he described that he only had 3 weeks of proper training leading up to the fight.
“Obviously after two or three kicks it split in two, but it’s just the fight game you know”, said Benoit as he described what it was like to have his toe split open in the middle of the fight. It is unclear in what round the toe exactly opened up but Benoit Saint-Dennis has promised to take his time and heal up before returning again.
