The Denver Nuggets’ 108-95 victory against the Miami Heat to take a 3-1 series lead was the topic of most discussion during Game 4 of the NBA Finals. However, that couldn’t stop the controversial departure of Conor McGregor from the Kaseya Centre after an embarrassing announcement.
Ahead of his expected UFC return fight against Michael Chandler, McGregor entered the floor during a stoppage in the third quarter with the Miami Heat team behind by 10. Conor took the opponent to announce that TIDL Sport, the fighter’s body spray firm, is now the official sponsor of the Heat and also revealed that it was his first-ever courtside experience at an NBA game.
After that, in what appeared to be a planned skit, Conor McGregor proceeded to defeat Miami’s mascot, Burnie. The Heat’s mascot wore boxing gloves and a title belt. McGregor landed a nasty hook that flatlined the mascot on the ground. Burnie got doused with some of Conor McGregor’s TIDL before being knocked out completely and receiving some more blows while he was on the ground.
Being behind the opponent by 10 points, topped with their mascot being knocked out and the partnership announcement, the Miami Heat fans didn’t like one bit of it. In response, they continued to boo McGregor until he decided to leave the court.
Conor McGregor might not fight Michael Chandler says former UFC double champion Henry Cejudo
McGregor’s return to the UFC is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated events. The way things are going, McGregor will be fighting Michael Chandler this year however, nothing has been solidified till now.
UFC legend Henry Cejudo mentioned in a recent interview with The Schmo that McGregor might drop the idea of fighting Chandler. According to Cejudo, Chandler is just an entertaining fighter but doesn’t have the same status as McGregor.
“I could see them skipping Chandler,” Cejudo said. “I could see Conor just saying, ‘Hey, I’m gonna want this guy. Chandler’s entertaining, but he’s not a big name. There’s no UFC belt around him. He’s not a legend in the UFC. He’s an entertainer of the UFC, but he hasn’t got there yet. I feel like Chandler, if he had the right tactics, he could potentially beat anybody in the world because he has power and he has wrestling, but I don’t think he’s really kind of put those two things together.”
It won’t be surprising to see McGregor skip Chandler and decide to take on some other fighter in UFC. Given his influence, McGregor still can ask for any fight he wants in the lightweight or the welterweight division.
