Thiago Santos vs Jamahal Hill
The main event of UFC Vegas 59 was headlined by the light heavyweight contest between Jamahal Hill (11-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) and Thiago Santos (22-11 MMA, 14-10 UFC) and it did not disappoint. These two sit at the very top of the division, and they were fighting for a place in the title picture.
Round 1: Santos started things off with a couple of leg kicks. Hill was taking his sweet time to engage and he was trying to acquire the center of the octagon. Santos was looking good and he was landing those leg kicks at will, he went for a takedown but it got stuffed, he got Hill pressed up against the cage, but an accidental shot to Thiago’s groin halted the action. With a minute left, the fight resumes and Santos finished the round strong.
Round 2: Santos was fighting behind those beautiful leg kicks, and Hill seemed a little hesitant to engage. He was looking to get in the range, but Santos followed a leg kick with a beautiful takedown but Hill got right back to his feet, a big wild exchange, and both got back to the center again. Hill started putting on more strikes and he ended the round strong.

Round 3: Santos was in constant pursuit of takedowns and he got it after much effort in the third round. There wasn’t much action but Santos was controlling him in the grappling exchanges. Hill gave Santos no chance to put any damage on him, but he couldn’t get his own offense going as well. Santos controlled Hill for the majority of the round and finished the round strong.
Round 4: Hill knew had to do something spectacular to turn things around and came out swinging in round no 4. Santos was setting the pace, but Hill started closing in the distance. Hill landed a beautiful 1-2 combination, and dropped Santos to the ground, he immediately followed up and forced the referee to step in. Great end to the main event of UFC Vegas 59.
