Robert Whittaker continues to show why he’s one of the most beloved fighters in the UFC. This week’s UFC is going to be held inside the Qudos Bank Arena In Sydney, Australia, where Israel Adesanya will be defending his belt against Sean Strickland.
It is going to be Izzy’s sixth title defense since winning the belt in Australia in 2019. Going into the fight, Izzy is the fan favorite and is expected to cruise through Sean Strickland with ease. Despite that, Israel Adesanya is focused on putting on a great show, as he always does, and recently had an open workout session ahead of the fight.
During the session, Izzy interacted with the fans and gave a strong speech. The fighter then asked the crowd about the last time he was in Australia. He said, “Hands up, if you were there in 2019 when I became the undisputed champion of the world.”
As Izzy asked people to raise their hands, Robert Whittaker, who was in the crowd, responded and sportingly lifted his hand. It was hilarious because Whittaker, whom Izzy beat that night, became the champion. Whittaker has a huge fan base in Australia given that it’s his home turf and he gathered some attention by doing so as it was a class act.
Robert Whittaker gives his final predictions for Israel Adesanya vs Sean Strickland
UFC 293 will take place in Sydney and former middleweight champion Robert Whittaker is hyped to see the main event. Ahead of the fight, Whittaker has given his predictions on who he thinks will get the win this weekend.
He said, “Here’s my prediction for UFC 293. I think the safer bet would be Izzy but I’m going to go with Strickland. I wanna see something crazy. I want to see him go in there just unorthodox as heck and just get a win somehow.”
The Aussie has put his chips on Strickland and wants to see something crazy on fight night. Whittaker expects the challenger to use his unconventional fighting style and beat Izzy to become the new reigning champion. It seems like Whittaker will be glad to fight Strickland for the UFC middleweight championship next rather than fight Izzy for the third time.
