Joanna and Valentina faced each other in Amateur Muay Thai tournaments thrice in three years. The beginning of their great rivalry was in the year 2006.

The two have faced each other several times in their career when they fought in the same weight class and the current UFC flyweight champion, “The Bullet” has always got the better of “JJ”. Shevchenko and Joanna signed with the UFC in the years 2015 and 2014 respectively. The two women fighters have etched their names in the history books by getting their hands on the UFC gold and also defending their belts several times. However, after facing many defeats outside the MMA octagon to Shevchenko, Jedrzejczyk got her chance to exact revenge in the year 2018.

Valentina and Joanna were matched up to face each other in a flyweight title bout. After losing her strawweight belt to Rose Namajunas, Joanna tried her hand at stripping the flyweight belt from Shevchenko at UFC 231. However, once again Joanna fell short of “The Bullet” as she lost the fight via decision. Joanna has a professional record of 16-4-0 in her MMA career while Valentina has a record of 22-3-0. Both the fighters have come a long way and have attained championship glory.

Valentina remains to be a dominant flyweight champion and the best pound-for-pound women fighter in the UFC today. Joanna will face her former rival Zhang Weili in a strawweight bout while Valentina will take on Taila Santos in yet another title defense.
