Dustin Poirier is undoubtedly one of the most complete UFC fighters on the roster. The former UFC lightweight title contender is an amazing striker and has great grappling abilities too. The fighter put those skills to the test last year when he met the famous strongman, Brian Shaw.
Both did a podcast together and shared a lot of stories with each other. Poirier and Shaw had immense mutual respect and it was visible in their conversation. After the podcast, both did a friendly grappling session and took turns to submit one another. Poirier who is almost half the weight of Shaw managed to secure a rear naked choke on Shaw. This forced the four-time World Strongest man to tap immediately. However, Shaw later repaid it by getting to the top position and tapping out Poirier too.
The Louisiana native did try his best to defend himself and escape the massive pressure created by Shawn. But it wasn’t enough at the end “I’m not protecting my neck here. It’s just that the body weight is too much. My lungs couldn’t keep up,” said Poirier after the session.
Poirier’s lungs might give up against Shaw but he can’t let that happen during his next UFC fight at UFC 281. Fighting against Michael Chandler is a challenge and it’s going to be a war given both the fighters have a similar reputation.

Ahead of the much anticipated lightweight fight between Dustin Poirier and Michael Chandler, Poirier sat down with former UFC double champion, Daniel Cormier for a chat. During the interview, Poirier showed his respect toward Chandler. However, the fighter revealed that he is ready to get serious once they are inside the octagon. According to the ‘Diamond‘, if Chandler fights this bout as he fought against Justin Gaethje, it will be a great mistake.
He said: “If he fights me like he fought Justin Gaethje, I’ll clean him up. I’m going back to Lafayette. Tune in… a few exchanges … If he comes out there with a tough guy mindset, let’s his n*ts hang, hands down, I’m gonna out tough you,’ I’m gonna clean him up, I promise you… If he doesn’t wrestle, if he does kickbox with me, he’s got to be cleaner than he was when he did it with Gaethje.”
Fight fans are extremely excited about the fight and it surely deserves the amount of hype it is getting. It will be interesting to see who will come out victorious on Saturday night.
