White, during his interview with Complex, talked about designing custom belts for the Mexican champions on UFC’s roster. Shortly after that, Rodriguez received a customized UFC belt. The customization was done by Mexican artists Jacobo and Maria and pays homage to Yair’s culture. Yair Rodriguez also brought the customized belt to the press event. He gave a detailed explanation about the belt’s build, and the backstory and showed his gratitude towards the artists and his management.

Unfortunately, Rodriguez came up short against the Australian champion. Rodriguez has an upcoming fight against Brian Ortega at UFC Fight Night in Mexico. He will look to build his way back to a title fight against the new featherweight champion, Ilia Topuria.

Ilia Topuria and Yair Rodriguez beef

Even before defeating Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 298, Ilia Topuria had vowed not to give Yair Rodriguez, Max Holloway, and Brian Ortega a chance at his supposed title. Therefore, now that he has won the title, the new champ has doubled down on his earlier stance. As such, Topuria called out Conor McGregor for a showdown in Spain after his knockout victory.

This did not sit well with Rodriguez, who aspired to not only defeat Topuria but also do some significant damage to the Spaniard. Topuria had also insulted Rodriguez by questioning his performance in recent fights, insinuating that he got lucky on some occasions.
