Why do Russian fighters like Magomed Ankalaev and Petr Yan feel mistreated and want to leave the UFC?
Magomed Ankalaev and Petr Yan
The main event of UFC 282 ended under controversial circumstances and has created a buzz. The bout for the vacant light heavyweight championship between Magomed Ankalaev and Jan Blachowicz ended with a split draw.
This decision seems to have clearly left the Russian fighter unsatisfied. Magomed asked why he has not been crowned the champion after the fight. Even his opponent Jan Blachowicz believes that Ankalev should be the champion.
Moreover, the comments made by UFC president Dana White in the Post-event press conference could be more discouraging for the fighters. Dana White said he was bored from the match and Ankalev should have done much more to win the title.
Another Russian fighter, Petr Yan has also found himself in a similar kind of situation. Yan first lost his Bantamweight championship to Aljamain sterling via a disqualification. This followed by his controversial defeat to Sean O’Malley via split decisions might have clearly left him disappointed with the promotions. While some fighters are pushed into the title picture just after 2-3 wins, it seems few of them are unable to get any even after wiping the whole division.

What’s next for Magomed Ankalaev and Petr Yan
After the main event of UFC 282 fans and fighters came in support of Ankalaev. Many believe he is the uncrowned champion. Ankalaev is unclear if he will continue to fight in the UFC.
MMA journalist Adam Martin wrote on Twitter, “Magomed Ankalaev is so upset with this decision that he says he isn’t sure he will fight for the UFC again. Same thing Petr Yan said when he lost to Sean O’Malley. This is just so messed up. I feel so bad for Ankalaev, he should have won the belt tonight. #UFC282″
Similarly, Petr yan has also made up his mind to compete elsewhere after his loss at UFC 280. Daniel Cormier talked about Yan on an episode of DC & RC back in October. He explained how Petr Yan feels dissatisfied with the company’s decision. Daniel Cormier said, “he just does not feel like maybe the organization doesn’t have his back. It’s crazy.”
Magomed Ankalaev will surely be disheartened after failing to capture even more due to the fact that he earned his title shot after defeating almost everyone on the roster. While his fellow Russian Petr Yan is on his way to making a switch to ONE championship after being with UFC since 2018.
