Henry Cejudo and Aljamain Sterling clashed last week in a highly anticipated fight at UFC 288. The fan reactions were really strong and people did crowd the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. But recently Cejudo’s coach claimed some numbers that many in the MMA community found to be absolutely ridiculous.

Henry Cejudo made his long-awaited UFC comeback at the UFC 288 Bantamweight main event. Cejudo was the former UFC two-division reigning champion when had left for nearly a three-year hiatus. He came back to fight Aljamain Sterling who is the current UFC Bantamweight champion. Obviously, the hype was there and the fighters put up a very enthralling show.

Henry Cejudo’s coach Eric Albarracin recently went on The MMA Hour where he claimed some outlandish numbers for the UFC 288 pay-per-view sales. Albarracin claimed that the UFC 288 Henry vs Cejudo fight earned over 700,000 pay-per-view sales. He criticized Sterling’s mockery of Cejudo leading up to the fight and claimed that it was more than twice the amount of PPV sales the ‘Funk Master’ could ever pull off. “Now you’re trying to benefit off the cringe, are you serious? You know many pay-per-views he got? 700, 000.”

He said that Aljamain Sterling should instead be thankful for profiting off of Henry Cejudo as an opponent. Since the defending champions make a cut off of the pay-per-view revenue, if the numbers that the coach claims are true, Sterling has made an incredible amount on top of his fight purse. But it has to be noted that no such official records or claims have been released so far.

Although the Henry-Cejudo fight was a highly anticipated event, many simply refuse to believe the claims of the fight doing 700,000 pay-per-view sales. People refute the claims of coach Eric Albarracin based on the fact that many higher-profile fighters rarely do close to those numbers.

Twitter doesn’t seem to buy into the claims of the high PPV sales. Aljamain Sterling himself went on Twitter to refute the claims of Cejudo’s coach saying that they would hardly break 250K buys.

There hasn’t been any response from Henry Cejudo himself regarding the outlandish claims. Regardless, until further verification, it can be safely assumed that Henry-Cejudo doing 700K pay-per-view buys is simply a hoax.
