Zhang Weili issues a cryptic response to Carla Esparza after she questioned ‘Magnum’s claim to a title shot
Zhang Weili
Carla Esparza has been offered a time and location for a potential battle with Zhang Weili, but the champion isn’t yet persuaded. Esparza’s replacement will likely be the victor of the fight considering the former champion’s strong performance, as indicated by UFC President Dana White prior to the contest.
In her post-fight scrum, Zhang advertised a meeting with “The Cookie Monster” in Abu Dhabi in October. On the other hand, the winner isn’t prepared to cede authority to her rival.
According to Esparza, who wrote about this in the New York Post, “I definitely don’t feel like I’m in a position where I should rush just because Weili wants a certain date, I’m not trying to go on her timeline. I’m the champion, and I feel she needs to go on my timeline.”

Carla Esparza argues Marina Rodriguez deserves title shot over Zhang Weili
Esparza isn’t exactly in the business of calling out rivals now that she’s recovered the UFC strawweight belt. The two-time 115-pound champion, though, still has a stake in winning her next title defense, so she was a bit taken aback when Zhang Weili was named the top challenger following her victory over Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 275.
In Esparza’s opinion, Marina Rodriguez is the contestant most worthy of a shot at the championship. Zhang’s most recent victory came after two defeats to Rose Namajunas, but the champion prefers Rodriguez’s current winning run and excellent displays against rated opponents.
Zang reacted to the comments made on Instagram, wherein she stated, Where he stated, “Actually, we’ve been fighting for two rounds. Go ahead. All continued to watch Let’s go champ”
Esparza didn’t enter the battle at full strength, after taking just a little injury in her split decision victory against Namajunas in May. She is quick to point out that injuries to athletes typically occur in the weeks and months prior to an event, not during the actual fight. The MMA world is curious as to whether Esparza is using this strategy to avoid fighting Weili.
