“He tried to manipulate”- Paul Felder throws shade over Khamzat Chimaev’s controversial weight cut for the welterweight division

Paul Felder on Khamzat Chimaev

Khamzat Chimaev is one of the hottest prospects in the UFC right now. The Swedish mixed martial artist turned quite some heads upon his arrival in the organization. He is on a four-fight win streak in the UFC, and to everyone’s surprise, he has only absorbed only 1 strike throughout these bouts.

Chimaev believes in his ability to defeat everyone in the UFC, and ‘The Borz’ has shown interest in fighting at the light heavyweight division as well. He currently competes at the welterweight and the middleweight division, but he is open to going up to the light heavyweight division to become the first triple champ in the history of the UFC.

Khamzat was oozing with confidence in this interview with Ariel Helwani from The MMA Hour, as he said, “I feel I could kill everybody, brother. I am the greatest of all-time, brother. I am the best.”

Paul Felder is a big fan of Khamzat, and he believes in his ability to dethrone the welterweight champ. Khamzat prefers to compete in the middleweight division, and his last weight cut for the welterweight division didn’t go exactly as planned. Talking about him on The Fighter vs. The Writer podcast, Felder said, “Even if we all agree right now that (Khamzat is) the best guy in the division, hands down, you’ve got to prove first of all to me and I’m sure to the UFC staff that you can make welterweight easier than you did the last time. That was a s*** show.”

Talking about his weight cut, Felder said, “I was in the room for those weigh-ins and I’m not saying that he didn’t make weight, but he was a mess. Obviously he tried to manipulate, they pulled the towel away, they made him go to the back and they made him come back out again. You’ve got to prove you’re a welterweight. Because you might be the future [185] pound champion but you’ve got to get that weight under control.”
