‘Runaway or accept’- Paulo Costa trains his aim at another UFC middleweight as Sean Strickland confirms a fight against Alex Pereira
Paulo Costa vs Derek Brunson
Sean Strickland and Paulo Costa were ping-ponging insults on Twitter for a while now since Sean took a dig at Costa for getting humiliated in the octagon by Israel Adesanya. Paulo decided to throw an insult at the champ, Sean stepped in and obliterated Costa with his words.
Sean is coming off a win against Jack Hermansson in his last bout, started searching for opponents which are when he picked a beef with Paulo Costa on Twitter. Paulo who also was not locked in for a fight immediately agreed and called Strickland a rat. Paulo has since then started posting training videos and calling himself the BLF(Best Looking Fighter).
Costa is on a two-fight skid, and his last one came against Marvin Vettori. He failed to make it to the middleweight limit, and he had the guts to not even try to make that cut. Marvin was man enough to accept the fight at catchweight, and he defeated him with a majority decision. Dana White was pretty mad at Costa, and he stated they wouldn’t allow him to fight in the middleweight division.
Costa’s team claimed he was injured, and that was the reason for this mishap. Just as he was trying to book a fight against Strickland, UFC announced a possible fight between their hottest prospect, Alex Pereira and Sean Strickland.
“Sean gave up”– Paulo Costa accuses Sean Strickland of ducking a fight against him
Now that Sean is gone, Costa called out the former title challenger, Derek Brunson for a fight. He wrote, “Now it’s time to Derek Brunson runaway or accept. Sean gave up. Brunson”
Brunson was on a roll before his last fight. He lost to the champion, Israel Adesanya back in 2018, and he went on a 5 fight win streak after that. These wins include names like Darren Till, Kevin Holland, Edmen Shahbazyan, etc. He faced Jared Cannonier for a title eliminator at UFC 271, and after a rough start, Cannonier knocked him out in round number 2 to secure the victory.
Brunson was really looking forward to his title rematch against Adesanya, but now that he’s not in the title contention anymore, a win over Paulo could pick him right back in the place.
