“Brunson is shaking”- Paulo Costa doubles down on his onslaught on Derek Brunson to cement a middleweight fight
Paulo Costa- Derek Brunson
After not being able to secure a match with UFC Middleweight Sean Strickland, Paulo Costa has moved over to the next possible option for him as a fighter and the name seems pretty significant enough to add to the resume. Strickland and Costa were going a little back and forth considering the former once called him back in November 2021 for a fight, considering which Costa took it as an opportunity to set up a fight for himself at middleweight.
Costa has last fought at light-heavyweight against former title challenger like himself in Marvin Vettori, a weight class suggested by the UFC for Costa to take his future bouts in as well. This is because Costa was originally supposed to fight Vettori at middleweight but due to unfortunate unprofessionalism, he missed the weight by an entire weight class. Costa is on a struggle to prove to the company that he can still compete in the 185-lbs weight class, the division ruled by the current champion Israel Adesanya.
Paulo Costa is smelling fear in Derek Brunson after the initial callout
Costa now has got behind rallying for a fight against another fellow middleweight in Derek Brunson. Brunson, who was on a five-fight before losing his last fight against upcoming UFC title challenger Jared Cannonier at UFC 271, has no upcoming fight lined up either. Brunson is a Strikeforce veteran fighting in the UFC since 2012 having secured wins over the likes of Chris Leben, Brian Houston, Lorenz Larkin, Ed Herman, Sam Alvey, Uriah Hall, Lyoto Machida, Edmen Shahbazyan, Kevin Holland and Darren Till.
Costa took to Twitter to initially call out Brunson, following which, after some hours, Costa came back to Twitter to write “Brunson is shaking lol” indicating that Brunson is scared of Costa to take up the fight as per Costa himself.
What do you make of Costa and Brunson going back and forth? Do you think Brunson is trying to avoid Costa’s fight due to his fears as per Costa or is Brunson seeing a fighter of a different weight class in Costa just like the rest of the division is looking at Costa now? Who do you think wins between Costa and Brunson if the fight ever goes down to happen?
