“People have low standards”- Israel Adesanya isn’t impressed by Robert Whittaker’s last three performances

Israel Adesanya comments on Robert Whittaker's recent performances

While the entire MMA world is singing praise for Robert Whittaker’s recent performances, Israel Adesanya says he has seen nothing extraordinary from his rival in his last three fights.

Israel Adesanya and Robert Whittaker will take on each other for the second time in the main event of UFC 271. The two middleweight superstars will take the center stage at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas this weekend. Robert is looking to reclaim his throne as the middleweight champion after losing it to Adesanya at UFC 243.

After getting TKO’d by Adesanya in the title unifier bout in 2019, Whittaker has managed to work his way back to another title shot. In the last two years, “The Reaper” has remained undefeated after defeating three top contenders, Darren Till, Jared Cannonier, and Kelvin Gastelum. Whittaker beat all three elite fighters in impressive fashion but Israel still doesn’t get what the hype is all about.

When the interviewer asked if people were putting too much stock into the last three fights of Whittaker, Adesanya did not even let him complete the question and said, “Yes. Yes. Yes. Way too much! To the point where I’m just like did he invent a new move? Did he reinvent the jab?” said Adesanya.

“He improved, yes. Maybe not to the point where they blow it out of proportion. Maybe people have low standards. That’s all. I just have high standards. So I just don’t go, ‘oooh oh my god’. It doesn’t really faze me,” said Adesanya. Whittaker defeated all of his three opponents via unanimous decision and outclassed them with his striking. Fans still rate them as high-level performances despite him not delivering a finish.

“He played the game well against all three opponents. But at the same time if you put those three guys together, they don’t amount to me. So I guess ‘I’m not really impressed by your performance,'” ended Adesanya with the iconic Georges St Pierre quote. Do you think Whittaker has been overhyped in the recent fights?
