Aljamain Sterling and Petr Yan will finally meet at UFC 273, almost thirteen months after their first fight. Yan’s illegal knee to his opponent’s face led to him being disqualified. This started a full-blown war between these two, and now they have a chance to settle their beef.
Sterling and Yan have not changed their views on each other since UFC 273 fight week. In the UFC 273 media conference, “No Mercy” says, “If we see his team, we kill. Right now, not Saturday,” when asked about a possible run-in with Sterling and his team.
It is safe to say that Petr, does not like the ‘Funk Master. Yan had to face the repercussions of his illegal knee, which put his career on hold. Sterling, since their last encounter, has taken every opportunity to mock Yan during the layoff. The trolling increased now that Cory Sandhagen was defeated by the Russian for the interim title.
Over time, Sterling has come up with many ways to ridicule Yan and he was not at all impressed. Although the rematch was rescheduled multiple times, both fighters have been very open about their intentions and now it is time to walk the talk.
Petr Yan wouldn’t jeopardize his career by actually threatening Aljamain Sterling or his team
Sterling and Yan, the respective interim UFC bantamweight champions, verbally sparred in the 45-minute gathering at UFC 273 presser on Thursday
The two rivals made headlines earlier this week when they appeared to be open to a physical confrontation at UFC’s host hotel. They also discussed it during the gathering. Yan, who is portrayed as the villain, says, “I just made a joke, and I’m not going to jeopardize the fight before.”
Earlier Sterling on the other hand tempted Yan by responding to his threats , telling, “So if you really wanna do something, I’m right here. I’m in the same hotel as you. You can find me. If you want, I can give you my room number…so it is what it is.”
Sterling and Yan both initially wanted to face off at the press conference, but UFC officials split them up before they could.
