“Put it in the contract”- John McCarthy reveals the best way UFC can bring Henry Cejudo back
John McCarthy and Henry Cejudo
The feud between Henry Cejudo and the UFC is not showing any signs of slowing down and John McCarthy believes he knows how the UFC can deal with the situation.
After Max Holloway had to drop from the fight against Alexander Volkanovski for the featherweight title, Henry Cejudo thought this could be an opportunity for him to step in. The former double champion was keen to fight his first featherweight bout and capture his chance of becoming the first individual in UFC to become the three-division champ.
But UFC didn’t support the plans of Triple C and went for Korean Zombie as the replacement fighter. Dana White told the media that Cejudo was out of the sport for 2 years and now coming back and fighting for the belt is not possible. But this contradicted White’s past decision of giving GSP the title fight against Michael Bisping after four years of retirement.
John McCarthy opinions on UFC not letting Henry Cejudo fight
John McCarthy and Josh Thomson recently published a podcast on their YouTube channel where they discussed why UFC shut down Henry Cejudo. McCarthy also expressed his idea of how Cejudo could fight for the title in the future. McCarthy explained that he is not complaining to the UFC that what they did with Cejudo is wrong but he thinks Dana White should have come out and said the truth. According to the former MMA coach, what White said in the press conference about Cejudo being out of the sport for two years is totally false.
“I wish Dana would have the truth that Hey! I’m not doing that again. I have done it and GSP came back and won my title and then he didn’t defend the title and you (Cejudo) already walked away from me once, I’m not gonna have a guy that could walk away from me again with the title,” said McCarthy about Dana‘s perspective.
McCarthy revealed that the fight between Cejudo and Volkanovski is something that every MMA fan should wish for. The fight has a great story and has various interesting elements to it.
McCarthy suggested that if UFC and White are doubtful that Cejudo will win the title and will not defend it then they can put a clause in the contract. There can be agreed that if Cejudo wins the title he will have to defend it in the future no matter what. “If you are UFC you are worried about him leaving then put it in his contract. Hey, we will pay you this but if you retire you owe us this much back,” said McCarthy.
