Diego Sanchez says he is “Free at last”- Has the UFC released Diego Sanchez?
Diego Sanchez was recently pulled off from the fight against Donald Cerrone. The reason wasn’t revealed and fans assumed that it might be due to an injury but things have seemed to take a left turn.
On Wednesday the news was revealed that Diego Sanchez had been pulled off from the welterweight co-main event against Cowboy Cerrone. Cerrone is a teammate of Sanchez and the fight on May 8th was supposed to be his retirement fight. Later on Sanchez’s Instagram stories, further information about his withdrawal was revealed.
Diego posted a story writing, “Free at last. Free at last” tagging other combat sports promotions like Bellator, ONE Championship, BKFC, and others. This might be Diego Sanchez’s way of saying he is done with the UFC and is free to be signed by any other promotion. Diego Sanchez now is a free agent. MMA Junkie was one of the first to report this news.
What was the reason behind Diego Sanchez and UFC’s feud?
Diego Sanchez for quite some time has had a rough patch with the company. Most of his outrage has been taken to social media where he is very active and posts videos about his disputes between UFC and him. The fighter has had a lot of heat exchanged between him and Dana White.
In 2020, the fighter posted on Instagram some controversial news about the UFC on his Instagram stating that he and his team were not attended the airport after his defeat against Jake Mathews at UFC 253. Another altercation with the UFC came about when he lost to a controversial decision against Michel Pereira in early 2020.
Sanchez took an illegal knee in the third round and he was DQ’d after the critics felt that he decided to stop the fight after he was aware that the knee was illegal. Diego has not been on good terms with the company for a while now and it is not surprising that he has been released.
