Retired UFC legend Jose Aldo is set to make his boxing debut alongside the dangerous Sergey “Crusher” Kovalev
Jose Aldo and Sergey Kovalev
It seems Brazilian legend Jose Aldo is set to fight inside the boxing ring after announcing his retirement from the octagon back in September. Former longtime UFC fighter José Aldo had always had boxing in his mind before he announced his retirement from MMA in September. These plans seem to be moving forward now that he is no longer under contract.
Aldo will make his boxing debut with Hardcore FC in Dubai sometime in March 2023, according to Telecom Asia. Anatoliy Sulyanov, the organization’s founder, confirmed the details of Aldo’s debut. Sulyanov said, “I’m not going to tell you the names yet, but José Aldo and most likely even Sergey “Crusher” Kovalev will be on the card. Aldo will fight with 99.9 percent probability, we’re negotiating with Sergey now.”
Jose Aldo retired from UFC in September of 2022 despite there being one fight on his contract. His last match was against Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 278 which he lost via Unanimous Decision. The Brazilian legend left his mark on the promotion by ending his career with accolades including being a two-time UFC Featherweight champion.

When Jose Aldo’s coach said Jose Aldo won’t compete anywhere outside the UFC
Back in October of this year, Jose Aldo’s Coach Andre Pederneiras detailed the Brazilian’s future plans. Pederneiras made it clear in an interview with Sherdog that the former two-time UFC featherweight champion has no interest in fighting for any other MMA organization following a successful career inside the UFC octagon.
He said, “Aldo had one fight on his contract with the biggest promotion in the world, where he built all his history. No matter the financial proposal, it wouldn’t make any sense for him…He never considered returning in another MMA promotion.”
However, he did hint at his future plans in boxing when he revealed a fight with boxing veteran Acelino Popo Freitas. He said, “There is something really big coming up for Aldo. Maybe one day a fight with Popo can be interesting, but it’s not at that moment”
At Eco Fight Championship 1 in August 2004, Jose Aldo made his MMA professional debut. On his UFC debut, he defeated Mark Hominick by a razor-thin margin in April 2011. Over the course of his UFC career, the Brazilian has participated in 20 fights winning 13 of them and losing 7.
