This is a fight long asked for by UFC fans in order to assess where Sean ranks among the elite of his division. However disagreeing to fight a ranked opponent without better pay, the fight has always been delayed over and over with O’Malley instead facing no-name fighters to give the fans a show.

In stark contrast, Munhoz has been tested in the deep waters for too long in search of that elusive title shot. At 35 he has shown that he can go the distance against divisional and promotional greats like Dominick Cruz and Jose Aldo. Hence the durability of Munhoz was never in question.

The same cannot be said for O’Malley. The young athlete has gained some flak for injuring himself in fights he seemingly won. This leads to long medical suspensions keeping him out of action for months. A good example of this was his fight against last minute replacement, Kris Moutinho.

O’Malley was surprised to find an opponent who refused to go down despite him putting in his all and connecting with the majority of his strikes. While O’Malley got the finish in the final 30 seconds (A questionable call considering the amount of time left and the damage Moutinho had already accumulated) what followed was a suspension longer than that of his opponent.

In his last 5 , O’Malley is 4-1 losing to Chito Vera while having notable wins against Thomas Almeida and Eddie Wineland. Pedro on the other hand in 1-4 in his last five, with his only victory coming against Jimmy Rivera while losing to Jose Aldo, Aljmain Sterling, Frankie Edgar and Dominick Cruz, all via decision.

When it comes to predicting this fight is tough to look past the creativity and flashiness of the young energy carried by O’Malley. However, it is also difficult to look past the mounting experience gap shared by Pedro.

Another factor to be considered is that Pedro has never been knocked out and O’Malley has found it difficult to keep up his pace in the latter rounds of the fight. However this will be the first time O’Malley’s power meets the elite of his division and if precedent is anything he shouldn’t be doubted.
