UFC set to start 2021 with a bang in Fight Island – Dana White reveals

UFC President Dana White is planning to set the year ablaze, starting it off with a bang, as he has announced three absolute belters set to headline a buzzing week in Fight Island – a triple header week! It begins with Max Holloway taking on Calvin Kattar, and then on to one of the most hyped fights in recent times – Khamzat Chimaev vs Leon Edwards and finally the biggie – Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier.

Taking to Instagram, the boss revealed the big news via Instagram stories, as well as through a promo video of Howler Head Whiskey. Big up Dana!

A tremendous week for the UFC!

Max Holloway makes his return to the octagon after almost beating Alexander Volkanovski for the featherweight title in a hotly contested rematch. Calvin Kattar, on the other hand, is coming off a victory over Dan Ige, and the number 6 ranked featherweight contender will be looking to climb further up the ladder, to earn a shot at gold. The match is scheduled on the 16th of January, next year.

Khamzat Chimaev vs Leon Edwards, was initially scheduled on the 19th of December, but it had to be scrapped due to Leon testing positive for the coronavirus and dropping a whopping 12 pounds in just 4 days. Nevertheless, the fight has just been pushed forward, a month and is scheduled to take place on the 20th of January, 2021. The world will get to see if Khamzat Chimaev is really worth the hype.

And, finally – the match that marks the return of the ‘face of the fight game’, Conor McGregor. Conor McGregor is in the shape of his life, and it will take a sparkling and mercurial performance from ‘Diamond’ Dustin Poirier to stop the Irishman. It is to be noted that, the two have already fought, back in 2014, when Conor McGregor put on a dominant show, finishing Dustin Poirier with ease. The fight is scheduled on the 23rd of January, next year.
