Magomed Ankalaev shocked the world by defeating Alex Pereira at UFC 313, capturing lightweight gold via a unanimous decision. Now, the newly crowned champion prepares for his first title defense, and the hype surrounding it continues to grow louder daily. Theatrics, drama, and mind games are building up, making Ankalaev’s next fight one of the most anticipated ever.

Following the bout, fans assumed Pereira’s rematch was guaranteed because of his dominance, legacy, and marketable status as a former champion. Despite that expectation, the rematch hasn’t materialized, leaving uncertainty around a thrilling second showdown. Meanwhile, Jiri Prochazka is focusing on University exams, prompting Ankalaev to mock both contenders on X for avoiding him.

Alex Pereira don’t want the Ank anymore. Let’s leave him alone because I’m not a bully:  Fake ninja he said he have to go back to school because he cannot read  @danawhite @Mickmaynard2 give me some fish

Prochazka is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Security and Strategic Studies at Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic.  His commitment to education led him to decline a UFC 317 fight offer to focus on his university exams scheduled for June 2025. Prochazka’s dedication to balancing his academic pursuits with his professional fighting career is exactly something that fans would expect from him.

The ‘Samurai’ destroyed Jamahal Hill in his last outing, redeeming himself spectacularly after his disappointing previous title fight loss. Originally, Prochazka aimed to avenge his painful defeats to Pereira, the Brazilian striker who bested him twice in epic battles. But for now, his focus has shifted toward Ankalaev, with their escalating social media feud capturing fans’ attention.

On the other hand, Pereira caused a stir after blasting UFC top brass online for what he claimed was disrespectful treatment. Later, Pereira clarified his social media account was hacked, though many fans remain skeptical and theories continue circulating wildly online. Due to these distractions and unresolved drama, Ankalaev still doesn’t have a confirmed opponent for his first title defense.

Magomed Ankalaev’s journey to the UFC light heavyweight title was slow and quite unique which caught everybody’s attention. He climbed the ranks steadily, using his striking prowess and wrestling background and came close to winning the belt at UFC 282. Later, in his title fight against Pereira, Ankalaev executed a flawless game plan, using superior wrestling to neutralize the Brazilian striker’s powerful attacks.

Many believed Ankalaev would be a dull champion, but his recent tweets mocking rivals have brought surprising entertainment value. Beyond social media antics, former champion Jan Blachowicz has publicly called for a rematch to settle unfinished business from their draw. In a recent X post, the Polish veteran challenged Ankalaev directly, urging the champion to defend his title against him next.

Apart from Blachowicz, Jamahal Hill has expressed strong interest in facing Ankalaev, recently posting about his title ambitions online. Hill is already booked to fight Khalil Rountree on June 21, aiming to secure a title shot with an impressive performance. However, facing Rountree will be a major challenge, especially considering his explosive performance in a brutal war against Pereira previously.

The light heavyweight division has long thrilled fans with legends like Tito Ortiz, Chuck Liddell, and Jon Jones dominating in different eras. Pereira’s title reign was explosive too, with three defenses in just seven months proved his unmatched activity. Now, Ankalaev stands ready to challenge history and legacy, aiming to forge his own dominant path to greatness.
