“Thanks Jorge, I will be patient”- Joanna Jedrzejczyk received an intersting piece of advice from Jorge Masvidal
Joanna Jedrzejczyk on Jorge Masvidal
The strawweight title fight between Zhang Weili, and Joanna Jedrzejczyk took place back in 2020. It was one of the best fights in the history of the UFC, and Joanna received a considerable amount of damage that completely busted her forehead. Joanna took some time out from the competition, and she’s eyeing a rematch against Weili.
Joanna was removed from the rankings because of her inactivity and she made it pretty clear, that she wants high-profile fights only. Weili is coming from two back-to-back losses against the current champion, Rose Namajunas, she is looking to get back in the win column, but a win over her would put Joanna straight in the title picture.
Weili isn’t planning on competing anytime soon, but Weili has no choice but to wait for her, talking to MMA Fighting’s Fighter vs Writer podcast, she said, “I heard Zhang Weili may not be back until late July or August. What they told me was that she was planning on being back to fighting March-April and then May-June. The last thing I heard was July-August. I can wait, and I want to wait, but on the other hand, I don’t want to wait that long. It’s complicated because all the girls from 1 to 10 are booked. But like I said, I’m only looking at the big, big, big fights.” (H/T MMAFighting.com)
“All the girls from 1 to 10 are booked”- Joanna Jedrzejczyk is having a hard time finding an opponent for her comeback
Joanna really wants to settle the score against Zhang Weili, but this fight might not happen because of her schedule. She got an advice from her friend and training partner, Jorge Masvidal, and she would love to follow it. She’s a true legend of the sport, and getting a high profile fight, won’t be much of an issue for her.
Talking about Weili, and Masvidal, she said, “It seems like she’s training. She’s posting pictures. She’s training, so I would really love to fight her sooner than August. I’m talking to Dan Lambert, Jennifer Goldstein, who is my manager, CAA management, we’re all trying to stay in touch with the UFC, with Mick and make another decision. Jorge told me, ‘I was in the spot where you’re at now, be patient.’ Jorge said that, so thanks Jorge, I will be patient.” (H/T MMAFighting.com)
