This might be the last time fans saw ‘ the Korean Zombie’ inside the octagon as the fighter on his way to retirement. Chan Sung Jung went on against Alexander Volkanovski for the featherweight title at UFC 273. He had replaced Max Holloway as the title contender after the Hawaiian got injured. But the fight didn’t go the way Sung Jung wanted it to be.

From the beginning of the fight, Volkanovski took the charge and dominated the fighter in every round. Sung Jung had no chance to get an opportunity to come back from the slaughter and finally lost the fight via TKO.

After losing to Volkanovski in such a dominating fashion it surely raised the question of retirement for Sung Jung. The fighter has been around in the UFC for a long time now. He made his UFC debut back in 2011 and throughout his career has faced incredible fighters such as Dustin Poirier, José Aldo, Yair Rodríguez, Brian Ortega, etc. The featherweight legend has fought twice for the featherweight title and unfortunately failed to capitalize in both situations.

His fight with Volkanovski was his second chance for getting the title but obviously, it didn’t go the way it was supposed to. After the fight during the post-fight interview, commentator Joe Rogan took the opportunity to ask the fighter about his upcoming plans. While responding to the question, Sung Jung revealed that at this age after every loss he tends to have a moment with himself regarding whether he will continue to fight or not. The fighter opened up about his intentions of leaving the octagon and the sport of MMA forever. But definitely, he will need more time to clearly come up with a decision regarding his future.

After every loss, I always think about leaving the octagon, leaving this MMA game but I will need more time to think on it and see if I would continue fighting or I would leave the octagon, I would have to think on that,” said Zombie.

The scenes after the fight in the Zombie’s corner were extremely emotional as the fighter was down with tears. For him, it must have been hard to finally see himself in a position to retire. During this time his wife was with him for support. Opponent, Volkanovski also showed his respect towards Sung Jung by bowing his head and congratulating him for the performance.
