Conor McGregor's bodyguard talks about the Irish superstar's real personality
Conor McGregor might after all be a nice guy. The superstar’s bodyguard, Mitchell Atkinson, who has seen the “Notorious One” up-close and personal reveals that McGregor is merely playing the character of a “bad guy” but is actually a much quiet person in real life, behind the camera.
The UFC’s biggest star and possibly the biggest athlete in the world, Conor McGregor has really turned his life around with his personality. Elite fighting skills alone did not make the Irishman the biggest PPV star in the world. The Notorious One is known for his amazing personality outside the octagon.
McGregor is also known for his trash-talking which he uses to build up and hype his fights. He is also known to cross the line on many occasions with his insults and taunts. Sometimes, Conor’s antics have got him into a lot of trouble and his personal bodyguard Mitchell Atkinson explains how the fighter is in real life.
“Conor is a great actor. There is no doubt about it he is an absolute genius,” said Mitchell on the Fistcuffs podcast. “But the ‘Notorious MMA’ is a character he plays a lot of the time. He is much quieter. He has a personality like an artist where he wears his heart on his sleeve.”

The UFC is a business where success is based on pay per view. Owing to this business format, a lot of the fighters go out of their way to promote their fights. In order to promote it, they are forced to play a role that gets more attention from the fans which might actually not be who they are in real life. The most notable fighters are, Colby Covington, Chael Sonnen.
Conor’s bodyguard also resonates with the same opinion and says that the Irish superstar is actually a good person. “In his heart, he tries to do the best thing, whether he always does the best thing or not is a different story but I do believe that he has good intentions most of the time,” said Atkinson.
